Dear student,
In case of spring given sideways displacement, transverse waves would definitely be produced. However, when any of the point on spring moves sideways from its rest position, the spring gets stretched at that point(which actually happens at all the points along the spring) and so the series of compression and stretching is formed which results in longitudinal wave formation too in the spring.
Similarly in case of motorboat, the motor produces transverse waves as seen in ripples in the water, but it also pushes water backwards forming period compressions and rarefactions resulting in longitudinal waves.
