A 2500-kg demolition ball swings from the end of a crane, as shown in Fig. 17-25. The    length of the swinging segment of cable is 17.3 m. Find the period of swing, assuming that the system can be treated as a simple pendulum.

										To obtain the period (T) of swing, substitute 17.3 m for the length of the swing segment (L) and 9.81 m/s2 for the acceleration due to gravity (g) in the equation T = 2π √L/g,
T = 2π √L/g
= 2(3.14) √(17.3 m)/(9.81 m/s2)
= 8.34 s
From the above observation we conclude that, the period (T) of swing would be 8.34 s.
