Dear student,

Assuming the collision to be elastic, let us suppose that the velcoities of the golf ball and the steel ball, initially and finally in the right direction arev_0, 0, v_1andv_2, respectively.

From conservation of linear momentum,

m_{golf}v_0=m_{golf}v_1+m_{steel}v_2
\implies 0.1v_0=0.1v_1+8v_2

Also from elastic collision,

v_0=v_2-v_1

\implies v_1=\dfrac{-79}{81}v_0
\implies v_2=\dfrac{2}{81}v_0

For elastic collision the relative velocity of balls before collision is equal to relatve velocity after the collision.
So correct answer is (A).
