Hybridisation in intermixing of 2 or more similar orbital having approximately similar energy to form same number of orbital intermixed before of indentical shape and energy.
- Orbital to be intermixing may have different shape
- Hybrid orbital will have same energy and shape
- To intermix orbital their energy must be similar
- Only sigma bonds participate in hybridisation. If 1s and 1p orbital mixed together they will form two sp hybridised orbital.
Similarly you can calculate hybridisation by using
Hybridised orbital = ( no. of sigma bond + number of lone pair + coordinate bonds)
=1/2[v+m-c+a]
Where, v= valence electron of central atom
m= monovalent attached to central atom
c= positive charge on central atom
a= negative charge on central atom
