DEAR SURI,
                      THE LINEAR COMBINATION OF VECTORS IS DEFINED AS IF ANY SCALAR MULTIPLE  APPLIED EXCEPT NULL VECTOR THEN IT IS CALLED AS LINEAR COMBINATION OF VECTORS.

In mathematics, a linear combination is an expression constructed from a set of terms by multiplying each term by a constant and adding the results (e.g. a linear combination of x and y would be any expression of the form ax + by, where a and b are constants).
here , u can apply the scaler multiple product . 
and that too except the null vector .

a linear combination is an expression of the form “(scalar times obect) +(scalar times object) +....+ (scalar times object)”.
Of course for such an expression to make sense you need your objects to be manageable to be multiplied by scalars and added.
