From the point of vector geometry
If you draw hexagon ABCDEF
you see that
Vect(AD) = 2* vect (BC) and vect(FC) = 2* vect(AB)
Given that AD = x BC
Hence x = 2
Hence FC = -2 AB
hence y = -2
Hence
xy= -4
