Why vector calculus important?what are curl,divergence etc/

you have not mention for which compitative exam you are prepearing .

If you are prepearing for IIT JEE.Then these topics curl,divergence are not included in the syllabus.

Curl:

the curl of a continuously differentiable vector point function F is define by the equation

 curl F = i x ∂F/∂x  + j x ∂F/∂y  + k x ∂F/∂z

Divergence:

The divergence of a continous differential vector point function F is denoted by the divF and it is define by the equation

 divF = i .∂F/∂x  + j . ∂F/∂y  + k. ∂F/∂z
