it's very simple ..

let there be 2 vectors

A = a1i+ a2j + a3k

B = b1i + b2j + b3k

(where a1, a2, a3, b1, b2, b3 are numerical constant & i, j, k are unit vectors along X Y and Z axsis rep.)

then A.B (A dot B) is

R (resultant)= (a1*b1)i + (a2*b2)j+(a3*b3)k

a1*b1 simply means multiplying the numbers

i hope it seems easy to u...

Dot product of two vectors, say a and b is ab cos(theta)

Now let there be two vectors

a = a1 i + a2 j + a3 k

and b = b1 i + b2 j + b3 k

so a.b = a1b1 + a2b2 + a3b3 (as i, j, and k are perpendicular to each other and cos 90 = 0)

The direction of the resultant is perpendicular to the plane containing the two vectors.
