hi tanya, we know that sin^4x+cos^4x=1-2sin^2xcos^2x and  sin^6x+cos^6x=1-3sin^2xcos^2x , so, we get
cos^2x=(2sinxcosx)^2=sin^2(2x)
or cos^2x-sin^2(2x)=0
or cos4x=cos(pi/2)
or 4x=2npi ± pi/2
or x= npi/2 ± pi/8
so, in 0,2pi, number of distinct solutions are 8.
