Hello Student,
Electronics and communications engineering is one of the vast and rapid growing field of engineering. The fact that scope of ECE in India is not high with respect to corporate jobs is quite acceptable as compared to other branches like CS and IT , however still some private companies like Qualcomm , Samsung , Intel , NVidia, etc . prefer to hire ECE undergraduates in India with a good CTC. But in the government sector the scope for ECE undergraduates is quite high for example companies like DRDO, BEL , BHEL, BDL, ISRO, Navy, BSNL ,Indian railways ,etc. hire ECE students even Maharatna and Navratna companies like CIL ,NALCO, IOCL,etc. hire ECE students.
You also have an option for higher studies in different specialisations like VLSI, Microelectronics, etc.
You can also appear the Indian Engineering Service examination , which has ECE as one of its five choices of subjects or can join the EME corp of Indian Army.
India being a developing country needs engineers who can contribute towards its growth and development. The demand for ECE engineers is going to increase exponentially especially in the field of defence , space and telecommunications.
It will be a good option to opt for Electronics if and only if you are really interested in this subject.
