The Engineering colleges rank list of 2011 says that..,

1.Vellore Institute of Technogy - No.38

2.BITS-Hyderabad - No.63

So i believe that VIT is better than BITS-Hyderabad !!!

For ECE blindly go for VIT dear because i personally have been there to VIT for a workshop & found the ECE deparment wonderful with full facilities & excellent proffersors ..!!

For Mech Engg i believe that VIT is slightly better than BITS-Hyderabad (sure) ..

Go for VIT dear...that's my recommendation as an analyst !!

though both the colleges are good but bits is beeter than vit not only in mechanical but in all engineering. the proof of this is their all india rank and their placements in which bits is much better than vit
