It Is Heard Sometimes That Mercury Is Used In Defining The Temperature Scale Because It Expands Uniformly With The Temperature. If The Temperature Scale Is Not Yet Defined, Is It Logical To Say That A Substance Expands Uniformly With Temperature

in general all substance expands uniformally with temperature. Water is an exception, it’s volume is decreasing when it convert from ice to water because of pecuilier crytal stucture. But, again it’s volume increasing after that. Temperature scales are basically used to measure temperature.
