If mercury and glass have equal coefficient of volume expansion . Is it possible to make mercury thermometer in glass tube

no, as far as my logic, because when mercury expands and rises the glass also rises in the same amount and the corresponding readings also. So the reading we would be getting does not tell about the temperature. In reality coefficient of volume expansion of mercury is 182 10^-6 and that of glass is 2.25 10^-6
