Dear student

Anomalous expansion of wateris an abnormal property ofwaterwhereby it expands instead of contracting when the temperature goes from 4°C to 0°C, and it becomes less dense. ... The density becomes less as it freezes because molecules of waternormally form open crystal structures when in solid form

ANOMALOUS PROPERTY OF WATER :
WATE HAS THE UNIQUE PROPERTY  OF ANOMALOUS EXPANSION . WHEN WATER IS COOLED FROM ROOM TEMPERATURE  IT FIRST CONTRACTS THE VOLUME AND BECOMES INCREASINGLY DENSE AS LIKE THE OTHER LIQUIDS , BUT AT 4 DEGREE CELCIUS WATER REACHES MAXIMUM  DENSITY, ON FURTHER COOLING WATER EXPANDS AND BECOME LESS  DENSER THIS WILL CONTINUE UNTIL IT REACHES 0 DEGREE  THE POINT AT WHICH IT FREEZES INTO ICE .
