A Copper constant thermocouple produces an emf of 40 microvolt/degree celcius in a linear range of temperature. A galvanometer of resistance 10 ohm and capable of detecting a current of 1 micro ampere is employed. What is the smallest temperature that can be detected by this arrangement?

Least count for galvanometer for current = 10^ – 6 amp
Least count for galvanometer for potential = 10^ – 6 * 10 = 10^ –5 Volt
Least count for galvanometer for temperature = 10^ –5 / 40 * 10^-6
= 0.25 degree C
