An iron rod of length 50 cm is joined at an end to an aluminium rod of length 100 cm. All measurement refer to 20°C. The co-efficient of linear expansion of iron and aluminium are 12 × 10−6°C−1and 24 × 10−6respectively. The average co-efficient of linear expansion of composite system is P × 10−6°C−1. then value of p is

For finding average coefficient of composite system ,we sum up individual change in length
∆l=∆l1 + ∆l2
150 ×P×10^-6=(100×24×10^-6) + (50×12×10^-6)
P=20
