WHY IS WATER SPRINKLED ON CLOTHES BEFORE IRONING THEM?

One sprinkles water on clothes in order to remove the creases from the washed clothes and to have a nice effect of smoothness on the cllothes.

HAS IT GOT ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE HIGH SPECIFIC HEAT CAPACITY OF WATER??????? I MEAN BECAUSE OF THE HIGH SPECIFIC HEAT CAPACITY OF WATER IT ABSORBS THE EXCESS HEAT, THEREBY PREVENTING THE CLOTHES FROM BURNING??????????????????????????????????????????????
