Sulphuric acid is a very strong oxidising agent so it would oxidise KI to form I2. Thussulphuric acid is not used during the reaction of alcohols with KI

Being stronger oxidising agent H2SO4 oxidise HT to form I2 therefore H2SO4 is not used for preparation of HI in situ by the reaction with KI.
