Halogen family basically consists of fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I), and astatine (At)and their electronic configuration ends at ns2np5
They have one electron less than the noble gas electronic configuration and therefore they have strong tendency to accept an electron and to attain such configuration.
Now as we know thatAn oxidizing agent is the substance in redox reaction that gains electrons and whose oxidation number is reduced. And halogens have strong tendency to accept electrone and therefore they are strong oxidising agents.
