When hydrogen gas was passed over 8.08g of heated metal oxide,it was completely reduced and 1.8g of water was formed. Then a) what is the weight of oxygen in the metal oxide? b) what is the equivalent mass of the metal?

h2o made is 1/10 mole.

mass distribution in 1/10 mole h2o is
1.6 g o2 + .2g h

but by conservation of mass ,
mass of o2 in reactant and product is constant.

mass of metal oxide = 8.08g\
therefore mass of metal= 6.48g

eq wt= (mass of metal/mass of oxygen)*eq wt of oxygen

         = 6.48/1.6 * 8 = 32.4g
