What makes a glass different from a solid such as quartz? Under what conditions could quartz be converted into glass?

They are diffrent types of Solid. One is amorphous and other is crystalline.

Glassis amorphous in nature whilequartzis crystalline .Quartzcan beconverted into glassby melting naturally occuringquartzcrystals of high purity at approximately 2000º C , using either an electrically heated furnace or a gas / oxygen - fuelled furnace
