Peptization takes place and the fe3+ ions from fecl3 are adsorbed onto molecules of fe(oh)3 and hence the particles of fe(oh)3 which were earlier of suspension size are broken down to colloidal size due to the repulsion between positive charges created by adsorption of fe3+ ions on fe(oh)3 surface.
