condition for a particle to perform SHM is Force should be proportional to the displacement .
however in this case when we find the restoring force due to a small displacement , we will find that the restoring force is not directly proportional to displacement ,
this is because the position of the particle >>> displacement , hence we can't neglect it .
but if the distance of the particle from the two charges would be small then it will be a case of SHM.
