Dear student,
For every reaction, there are compounds which initiate or are produced in a reaction. These compounds have a heat of formation of reaction, i.e. the heat released when the particular compound is formed. Using the heat of reaction of the product and reactant, we can find the heat generated in a chemical reaction.
