if we carry out a similar set of operations on the enthalpy, like H=U+ pV. The quantitiesU, p, and V are all state functions; therefore His also a state function and dHis an exactdifferential. It turns out that His a useful thermodynamic function when the pressureis under our control: we saw a sign of that in the relation ΔH = qp .
This relation will prove useful for relating the heat capacities at constant pressure and volume and for a discussion of the liquefaction of gases.
