Yes it is true that magnesium can reduce aluminium oxide and aluminium can also reduce magnesium oxide.Ellingham diagram when studied,we found that it suggest that below 1350 deg.C,Mg can reduce aluminium oxide, Al2O3 and when temperature is above 1350 deg,C Al can reduce magnesium oxide,MgO.
