In irreversible P-V expansion of gas, workdone by the gas(system) is often expressed in terms of the external pressure without considering the internal pressure of the gas.Why is this so? Can we not determine the work in terms of internal pressure of the system? Please explain more elaborately.

In irreversible P-V expansion of gas, workdone by the gas(system) is often expressed in terms of the external pressure without considering the internal pressure of the gasbecause in an irreversible expansion work is always done against an external pressure.Internal pressure is something which aid in expansion therefore work done by the gas is taken as negative
Work is said to be done against an external force,without external force work done is 0
w=-pextdv(expansion)
