Antiseptics – These are the chemicals which kill or prevent the growth of microorganisms.Antiseptics are applied to living tissue. They can be applied to wounds, cuts, ulcers and diseased skin surfaces. They are also employed to reduce odours resulting from bacterial decomposition on the body or in mouth. So they are incorporated into deodrants, face powders and breath purifiers.Dettol is an example of antiseptic.

Disinfectants – Disinfectants are used to kill micro-organisms but are not safe for contact with living tissue, and are applied to inanimate objects such as floor, instruments etc.For ex-1 percent solution of phenol act as an disinfectant.
