Hi student
Roasting is the process in which sulphide ore is strongly heated in the presence of air to convert it into metal oxide. Sulphur dioxide gas is evolved in roasting.
For example- 2FeS + 3O2 → 2Fe + 2SO2
while Calcination is the process in which carbonate ore is heated strongly in the absence of air to convert it into metal oxide. Carbon dioxide gas is evolved in calcination.
For example- CaCO3 → Cao + CO2
