Hello Student Alkali and alkaline earth metals cannot be obtained by chemical reduction methods because they are very strong reducing agent and highly reactive metals. Because of this they can not be reduced by any other substance very easily.

alkali and alkaline earth metals cannot be obtained by chemical reduction methods because they are strong reducing agents and possess very high reactivity due to which they cant be reduced easily by any other element and so can only be obtained by electrolutic reduction..

Because they are themselves reducing agents and are highly reactive as they readily loose their electrons to form M+ ions. Thus due to high reactivity and being themselves a good reducing agents,alkali and alkaline earth metals are not obtained by chemical reduction process
