Classification of polymers on the basis of structures:

  • Linear polymers:

Linear polymers consist of long straight polymer chain. Example, poythene, PVC etc.

  • Branched chain polymer:

The linear chains of branched chain polymers contain some branches. For ex: low density polythenes.

  • Cross linked /network polymers:

These polymers are formed by bi-functional or tri-functional monomers and contains strong covalent bonds between various linear polymer chains. Example : bakelite, melamine etc
