lithium carbonate is thermodynamically unstable as under ordinary condition it decompose into lithium oxide and carbon dioxide.
Li2CO3 --------Li2O +CO2
The decomposition is favoured by the high lattice energy of Li2O as compared to Li2CO3
whereas sodium carbonate being thermodynamically unstable does not decompose
Na2CO3-----do not decompose
sodium carbonate is stable.
