The valency of carbon in acetylene ( C2H2)  is 4 as the structure of this compound is :

                                                   H-CΞC-H
 as the four valence electrons of each carbon atom from its outermost shell is involved in covalent bonding so its valency is 4 ( Tetravalent).

Dear Aniket

ethane = C2H6
Ethylene = C2H4
Acetylene = C2H2

valency for carbon will remain same as 4. because it is sharing its electrons. Not gaining or loosing its electrons completely.
