Molarity (M) denotes the number of moles of a given substance per litre of solution
Molarity is expressed in mol / L
M = (# of moles) / (volume of solution in litres)
Molality (m or molal) denotes the number of moles of a given substance per kilogram of solvent (not solution).
Molality is expressed in mol / kg
m = (# of moles) / (mass of solvent in kg)
