Decomposition reactions can have complicated mechanismsas Collisions are still involved when reactants transfer energy to each other. For a reaction to occur, in addition to the reactants colliding (not applicable here), the reactants also have to exceed the activation energy.
When those higher energy reactants have decomposed, the remaining reactants will still be colliding with each other and the container walls to reach temperature equilibrium with the surroundings.
