A 100ml sample is removed from an aqueous solution saturated with CaSO4 at 25C temperature, the water is completely ebaporated from the sample and a deposit of 0.24g CaSO4 obtained. What is solubility product(Ksp) of CaSO4 at 25C?

Given:-
Mass of CaSO4 = 0.24g
Volume of solution = 100 ml
Ksp of CaSO4 = ?
solution :-
CaSO4 will dissociates in the following way:-
CaSO4 ---------> Ca2+ + SO42-
thus,Ksp = [Ca2+] + [SO42-]
now to calculate the solubility of CaSO4,as it can be expressed on moles/litre
first we calculate the no. of moles of CaSO4 = Mass of CaSO4 = 0.24
Molar mass of CaSO4 136
thus no. of moles = 0.00176 or 0.0018
now solubility in no. of moles/litre = 0.0018 * 10000 = 0.018moles/litre
100
thus CaSO4 on dissociation will give 0.018 mole of Ca ions as well 0.018 moles of SO4ions
Ksp= [0.018]*[0.018] = 0.00032 or 3.2* 10 to the power -4.
