Dipole-Dipole Forces
Dipole-Dipole forces occur between molecules having permanent electric dipole. A bond is said to be polar, if the formation of bond leaves partial charges on the two atoms, as in the case of bond between dissimilar atoms. For example the molecule of hydrogen chloride is a polar molecule. In the bond the shared electron pair is closer to the chlorine atom because of its higher electronegativity compared to hydrogen atom. An electron dipole results. This dipole interacts with another neighbouring dipole, hydrogen chloride polar molecule, and produces a net attractive interaction.
