Dear shefali

in any cristal lattice unit cell is not fuul occupied by atom .so colume which is un occupied is known as void.

for example for BCC, number of effective atom in unit cell is 2

let the radius of atom is r and edge of unit cell is a

for BCC  r =a √3/4

 now volume of unit cell = a3

volume occupied by atoms = 2* 4/3 ∏r3

                                       =8/3 * ∏ (a √3/4)3

                                        = ∏ √3/8  (a)3

   void = a3   -  ∏ √3/8  (a)3
