THE RESIDUAL GASES ON BEING PASSED THROUGH AQUEOUS KOH ,THE DECREASE IN VOLUME IS DOUBLE THE VOLUME OF HYDROCARBON TAKEN . FIND THE NUMBER OF ATOMS OF HYDROGEN IN A MOLECULE OF HYDROCARBON?

Hi Raviteja,

let the compound has x C atoms and y H atoms.

the no. of water molecules are y/2

after cooling water vapour liquifies

y/2=1.5

y=3

after passing through aq KOH volume decreases twice

x=2

therefore no of H atoms in one molecule are 3
