In chemistry, resonance or mesomerism is the appearance of delocalized electrons within certain molecules or polyatomic ions, so that the bonding cannot be expressed by one single Lewis formula. A molecule or ion with such delocalized electrons is represented by several contributing structures (also called resonance structures or canonical forms) they actually exits which makes compunds more stable An electric dipole is a separation of positive and negative charges. The simplest example of this is a pair of electric charges of equal magnitude but opposite sign, separated by some (usually small) distance. A permanent electric dipole is called an electret.
