According to periodic tendency, the size of the atom increases down a group. But if we supply energy to an atom, the electrons in the atom get excited and move to different orbits and even to infinity. If that is true, then every atom must have had orbits up to infinty. Then what is the reason for this perodic property?

Dear amrithavarshini,

The notion of infinity is not exactly infinity here.It means that the electron moves out of the atom if it has more energy than the force os attraction between the electron and the nucleus.
