Let equivant wt of metal be E now using cobination method and equating the gram equivalents (gmeqs):1.520/E+17 = 0.995/E+80.525E = 4.755E=9.05

One equivalent of the metal reacts with one mole of OH ,i.e, 17 grams.Similarly, one equivalent of the metal reacts with 1/2 moles of oxygen atoms ,i.e, 8grams of oxygen atoms.Let E be the equivalent mass of the metal. And let X be the no. of equivalents of metal hydroxide ignited. Therefore, x[E+17] = 1.520 grams & x[E+8] = 0.995 gramsBy eliminating x , we get E= 9.06 grams..

Dear student,
Please find the solution to your problem.

One equivalent of the metal reacts with one mole of OH ,i.e, 17 grams.
Similarly, one equivalent of the metal reacts with 1/2 moles of oxygen atoms ,i.e, 8grams of oxygen atoms.
Let E be the equivalent mass of the metal. And let X be the no. of equivalents of metal hydroxide ignited.
Therefore, x[E+17] = 1.520 grams & x[E+8] = 0.995 grams
By eliminating x , we get E= 9.06 grams..

Thanks and regards,
