With the help of resonating structures explain the ortho-para orienting effect of -OCH3 group in methoxy benzene.

When ethoxy group is attached to the benzene the lone pairs of oxygen atom of -OCH3 gets in conjugation with the pi bonds of the benzene. Therfore the power of donating electrons get restricted.
At para position two ethoxy groups dominate and would be less stabe that at the ortho position due to H-bonding at ortho position.
