intermolecular forces depend upon the surface area , and as u know branching will make the molecule more compact , and thereby decrease the surface area . so, intermolecular forces also become small in magnitude , consequently , it also affect the boiling point of a compound . 
and as uy knows the intermolecular forces are directly propertional to vann der walls force .
