why does the side chain in a benzene ring not converted into benzoic acid if there is no hydrogen attached to the carbon attached to the benzene ring? ( oxidation using hot alk kmno4)

no satisfactory mechanism for this simply remember alpha hydrogen is must for conversion to benzoic acid otherwise no reaction
i think the mechanism processds via cyclic intermediate which requires the presence of alpha hydrogen for conversion to benzoic acid with the removal of side chain
