Saturated hydrocarbons undergo substitution reactions because they can form stable intermediate while showing reaction. Whereas unsaturated hydrocarbons cannot form stable intermediate in substitution reaction due to presence of double and triple bonds, they can show addition reaction easily by converting themselves into saturated. But alkenes can show allylic free radical substitution reactions due to the formation of stable radical.
