Friedel craft reactions are favoured by ring activating groups like alkyl, halogen, etc. - As carboxyl(-COOH) is ring deactivating group, it prevents compound from this reaction. - Also benzoic acid reacts with AlCl3 itself to form benzoyl chloride. - Therefore, benzoic acid don't undergo Friedel Craft's acylation

Dear student
-COOH attached to the benzene ring is electron withdrawing and ring deactivating,  The reagent then undergoes polymerization, degradation and is not available for the reaction with the substrates of low reactivity.
Hope this helps
Good Luck
