Why alkyl isocyanide cannot be hydrolysed by a base?

Base is not used to hydrolyse the alkyl isocynide as it has OH- ions .
It can ony gives its salt ions to be replacable to the isocyanide that is after formation of 
R-COOH → R-COONa
