why a molecule having a plane of symmetry does not show optical activity?

due to plane of symmetry in a molecule a object image relationship develops between two half parts of that molecule.and half part rotates plane polarised light clockwise and another half part rotates plane polarised light anticlockwise net effect becomes zero.hence compound becomes opticaly inactive.
