A chain reaction mechanism for the chlorination of methane and Bromination of alkanes occurs by a similar mechanism, but is slower and more selective because a bromine atom is a less reactive hydrogen abstraction agent than a chlorine atom, as reflected by the higher bond energy of H-Cl than H-Br.

HELLO THERE!

The answer cannot be B.

Chlorine has more Radical substitution tendency than Bromine, thus chlorination is more reactive than bromination. I confirmed this from my teacher.

Consider some analytical data:
In the rate determining step for chlorination, the net energy is -5 kcal/mol, and for bromination it is +10 kcal/mol. Breaking a bond requires energy that is to be given, and the bond formed releases the energy. Negative is the energy, more energy is released due to the bond formation, thus more energy is released during chlorination and thus, chlorination is more reactive than bromination.

HOPE MY ANSWER IS SATISFACTORY...
Thanks!
